MBS Clinic offeres pain management in Ayurvedic way.

Pain is any physical suffering or discomfort caused by disease or injury.
The most common reason people see doctors is pain.
Ayurveda suggests a different approach to pain relief. It begins by viewing pain as a mind-body experience that’s highly subjective.
Ayurveda provides a wide range of therapies both internally and externally.
Pain is a complex experience involving sensory and emotional components.
Pain in the body is an expression of some or the other pathological condition which is definitely caused by some imbalance of body energies.
Pain expression is the function of vata dosha.
To balance vata dosha is the primary treatment goal of any pain management in Ayurveda.

Pain is treated in 2 ways:
External treatment & Internal treatment.

External treatment consists of following therapies;

• Local fomentation :
The area where pain is there, is fomented with the help of either hot water bag or some metal heated pan covered with towel, etc. Ayurveda preferes to give hot fementation, that also mostly after application or gental massage with the appropriate oil, according to the medical condition.

• Nadi Swedan:
This is for an instant relief from pain, especially in any sort of localized pain. In thi procedure, medicated water vapour is focused over the painful region with the help of a tube and the patient got immediate relief. This may be given locally and generally. Herbs used for the vaporization are mainly vata dosha reliever medicines.

• Patra pinda swedan – a bolus is prepared with pain relieving leaves and oil, this is applied with oil over the body generally or locally depend on the condition of the patient. The oil used for the preparation of the bolus can be vary according to each patient’s condition and prakriti.

• Kashaya dhara – the medicated herbal decoction is poured all over the body in a synchronized manner in a to and fro motion.

• Abhyangam – application of medicated oil all over the body or locally with specially designed steps for massaging.

• Kati Basti, Janu Basti, Manya Basti, Hrid Basti, Netra Basti are organ related procedures , performed at respective sites to manage pain and at the same time strengthen them.

• Agnikarma – Agnikarma is basically performed in two ways. Direct heat and Indirect heat. Mostly, the second method is preferred by MBS clinic. A small rod of Gold with a blunt end, specially designed for this purpose is placed for heating and then on the affected area. It works effectively and gives immediate relief. Usually done in conditions like joint pain, pain due to cervical or lumbar spondylosis, spasmodic pain due to calculi, sciatica the procedure is done along the path of the nerve, frozen shoulder.
The other way (direct heat) is useful in pain at heels which is done by
Mruttika shalaka (earthen rod).

• Rakthamokshana – wherein blood is removed by puncturing the vein. In patients where blood pressure constantly remains high without any definite symptoms, such blood letting plays an efficient role.

• Lepa : Lepa literally means application of paste of herbs on the affected area and leave it to dry. Usually applied in cases of swelling, injury, sprain, etc. Lepa using hot turmeric is beneficial in instant relief from a trobbing pain due accumulation of pus in an abscess, it may help in relieving pus from the site.

Internal treatments :

• It includes the administration of herbal medicines internally. It may be in the form of tablet, capsule, and herbal mix powder.
• Mahavatvidhvans vati, dashmool ghan vati, rasnadi ghan vati etc. are used for the pain management.
• Internal oleation i.e. Snehpana is one of the best way to control vata dosha and freedom from pain. 2-3 tsp of ayurvedic ghee everyday will serve the purpose.

Basti – Medicated enema, the popular and highly effective ayurvedic basic procedure of giving medicated decoction and/ or oil into the anal region. This helps in pain management effectively, by controlling imabalance of vata dosha.
